Scott Dixon takes controversial win in Edmonton!
Team Target Ganassi driver Scott Dixon captured a controversial victory at the Honda Indy Edmonton on Sunday, crossing the line in second place but being awarded the win after the race leader was penalised.
Team Penske Racing driver Will Power started the race from pole position and led the race until the final rounds of pit stops.
He emerged from the pit lane in first place but with just 19 laps to go, his teammate Helio Castroneves powered in front of him. The two Ganassi drivers, Dixon and Dario Franchitti, were running 3rd and 4th.
There was a last-moment caution with 5 laps to go that bunched up the field. The green was given with three laps to go, and running into the first corner, Castroneves and Powere fought hard, then side by side, allowing Dixon to slip into second place!
But moments later, IndyCar officials decided to penalised Castroneves for blocking, saying that he changed line going into the first corner.
The Brazilian crossed the line in first place but was demoted to 10th.
Dixon collected victory ahead of Will Power and Dario Franchitti.
Penske third driver Ryan Briscoe arrived home in 4th place ahead of Ryan Hunter-Raey, Canadian driver Paul Tracy, Mario Moraes, EJ Viso, Takuma Sato and Castroneves.
Castroneves could no believe he had been penalised for blocking. He got out of his car and started screaming and shouting at the race officials. The security people came in action and managed to calm down the hot blodded Brazilian.
The only other Canadian in the race. Alex Tagliani, collided with another competitor and was forced to abandon his wrecked Hot Wheels FAZZT Racing Dallara out on the race track.
